I wanted to give him avocado as his first one. The avocado I had was a bit under-ripe (I have never had that happen before!) It was so hard that when I put it in the food processor it made little hard chunks. I was so mad and frustrated that I threw it into my food steamer and steamed the crap out of it until it was soft. I wasn't about to let that avocado get the best of me! Since that was taking forever and I was getting frustrated, I decided to just go with a sweet potato instead and threw that into the microwave. I mixed it with some breastmilk and threw it in the food processor.
Note to self. Giving a baby his first veggies when he took a bad morning nap is not the best choice. Here is how the first tastes of sweet potatoes went when Grant was very tired:
Those darn sweet potatoes really got him down! Shortly after this picture was taken, we gave up, cleaned him up and made him take a long nap. After waking up and going for a nice relaxing long run with mom, we gave sweet potatoes a Round 2. The results were much more positive.
He loved them! Success! He ate a pretty big portion too. He kept saying, "MMMMMMMM!" and blowing raspberries (which is Grant's way to show love for something). Moral of the story: Never offer a new food to a non-napping crank. We'll attempt them again tomorrow for lunch.
And so far, I have made two bags of baby food for him. I plan to make two things per day until we have 8 choices to rotate through once he gets 3 days worth of tastes of all of them. Whew, did you follow that? :)
